Have you ever seen a "Green Banana" growing in
Central Pennsylvania? Did you know that we grow them 90 miles long? If not, we welcome you
to Pennsylvania's newest growth corridor -- the I-99 "Green Banana".
"Our Growth Symbol": As an
economic development organization, we need a recognition factor to attract attention to
our marketing theme of the I-99 corridor -- Pennsylvania's Emerging Growth Corridor.
The only natural North/South corridor
between Pittsburgh and Harrisburg is rapidly nearing completion as an exclusive limited
access connector. This newest Growth Corridor will connect the two major East/West
Pennsylvania Highways -- The Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-76) to our south and
transcontinental Interstate I-80 to our north.
| Here at Altoona-Blair County Development Corporation we
believe in a very simple new rule of economic development -- competitive businesses are
attracted to and grow in the highest value locations-- not the cheapest. Today, successful
world class companies compete on the basis of service and quality and the synergism of the
four components that make up the Green Banana Growth Corridor allows that to happen in a
unique and collaborative way. |
Penn State University, world renown research leader, is
located in our northern neighbor, Center County, the connector to I-80, and provides
dynamic intellectual capital, a spring of entrepreneurship and a foundation of
technological growth. Bedford County, our southern neighbor, is the gateway to the
Washington/Baltimore Metropolis, an agribusiness showplace and a recreation enthusiast's
dream. We in Altoona-Blair County - the centrist in the I-99 Corridor - offer a mini-metro
service culture, a regional retail catch basin, and superb infrastructure and
manufacturing environment |
