PA Wrestling Newsmagazine
Wins National Award
April
22, 2009
The
Pennsylvania Wrestling Newsmagazine has been named publication of the year by
the National Wrestling Media Association. PWN provides coverage of jr. high,
high school and all three levels of college wrestling in Pennsylvania.
PWN
was first printed as a four page newsletter in the home of PWN founder, Joe
Baranik, in Hollidaysburg. Over the years, PWN has continued to grow and expand
while the publication's mission has remained the same - to inform, educate,
entertain and promote the sport of wrestling. After the 8th season of printing,
the name of the publication was changed from Pennsylvania Wrestling Newsletter
to Pennsylvania Wrestling Newsmagazine to emphasize the expanded content of the
publication and the magazine print format. After fourteen years in print, PWN
has continued to add content each year and has added color printing. PWN
reaches subscribers in Pennsylvania as well as 20 other states across the nation
from Delaware to Washington. PWN is printed six times during wrestling season
from November through April. The PWN web site at www.pawrestling.net is updated
throughout the year and includes wrestling news as well as subscription
information.
Baranik is currently the head coach at St. Andrews College in Laurinburg, North
Carolina where he continues to write the Half Nelson Report for each issue.
Columnists and contributors include: Marc Billett (NCAA Photos), Gary Blockus
(District 11 Report), Mike Branas (Jr. High Rankings and Report), Dave Caslow
(His-Story and Lessons Learned), Bill Creps (The Road to Hershey), Tad Harbert
(NCAA Reports), John Hartsock (District 6 Report), Don Henry (Division II
Report), Todd Irwin (PA Profile), Arlin Roth (web site, news, PIAA photos), Paul
Shofield (District 7 Report), and Ryan Spring (District 5 Report). The layout
and graphic design is done by Shawn Reimer. Connie Frazier handles the
subscriptions and mailing duties.
This
is the second time that PWN has received national recognition. PWN was named
the "Best State Newsletter" by Wrestling USA Magazine 2004.
